Kristine and Douglas Tompkins

Financial support keeps our projects alive and thriving. We have the team and the track record to tackle a range of critical projects, from reintroducing the jaguar to the Iberá wetlands in northeastern Argentina to establishing new flagship parks in Chilean Patagonia.

Yet we cannot fund this work on our own. Since the beginning, a group of visionary, committed partners have supported our projects, giving us guidance as well as financial help. Some have called us the “venture philanthropists,” who got started with risky initiatives. As our projects develop, we appreciate the opportunity to welcome new partners in this work.

You can help purchase wildlife habitat, advance ecological restoration, develop public-access infrastructure, support local economies, and put healthy, resilient landscapes into permanent protection

Our organizations run with minimal overhead and with lean, skillful teams. We will not spend your money on maintaining a big bureaucracy or running glossy PR campaigns.

The conservation initiatives led by Douglas (1943 - 2015) and Kristine Tompkins have been carried out through various organizations over the years, including Conservacion Patagonica, Tompkins Conservation (formerly known as the The Conservation Land Trust), and the Foundation for Deep Ecology. On December 31, 2018, Tompkins Conservation merged with Conservacion Patagonica, with the surviving organization being named Tompkins Conservation. Tompkins Conservation is a 501(c)(3) public charity, and is now our sole US-based nonprofit. Our EIN is 94-3363675.

Planned Gifts
Planned gifts allow our donors to be partners in conservation while realizing tangible financial gains. Planned giving allows donors to make charitable contributions at a future date, retaining the use of the assets in the meanwhile. Planned giving can meet estate-planning needs, while also fulfilling charitable intentions. With careful planning, donors can have more control over what both heirs and favorite charities ultimately receive.
Below is a selection of planned giving tools. Please check with your financial or legal advisors to help you evaluate the best strategy for your situation. Whatever method you choose, please let us know about your decision, so your gift can be properly acknowledged.

A bequest in your will is the simplest form of planned gift and allows you to provide an enduring gift to Tompkins Conservation.

Qualified Pension Plans
Designating Tompkins Conservation as the beneficiary to your IRA, Keogh, or other qualified pension plan can provide significant tax benefits. Assets in these plans accumulate without being taxed, but at the point of distribution can result in significant taxation.

Life Insurance Policy
Life insurance can maximize the size of the charitable gift you are able to make, and can also serve as a versatile estate-planning tool.

Life Income Gifts
Life income gifts are powerful philanthropic tools. They typically provide income to the donor, a donation to a charity, and both income and estate benefits. There are a number of different types of life income gifts, like charitable remainder trusts, pooled income funds, charitable lead trusts, and revocable charitable remainder trusts.

Doug Tompkins—one of the most ambitious and successful conservationists in history, worked for a quarter century to create and expand national parks in Chile and Argentina, recover imperiled wildlife, demonstrate organic agricultural practices, promote healthy local communities, and support leading-edge activism. Under the continuing leadership of his wife Kristine McDivitt Tompkins, these pioneering efforts continue through the Tompkins Conservation umbrella of nonprofit organizations and through the support of other like-minded organizations. For those who wish to support this innovative work to protect wild places and creatures in Patagonia and beyond, we welcome your contribution to this fund.
